Directed by Christophe Ali & Nicolas Bonilauri • Drama • With Nathalie Baye, Malik Zidi, Jean-Stan Du Pac • 2018 • 87 minutes
With his wife in labor, father-to-be Thomas (Malik Zidi) speeds to the hospital and, in the process, accidentally kills a young man on the road. The death sets into motion a series of events that will change everyone's lives forever, including the young man's mother, Marie-France (played by four-time César award-winning Nathalie Baye), who cannot recover from the trauma. Nine years later, Marie-France takes a job as Thomas’s assistant, without his knowing about her connection to his past. Her maternal rage has tragic consequences as she insinuates herself into Thomas's life, work and family. THE ASSISTANT is a "suspenseful!" (Variety) drama-thriller in the vein of classic Hitchcock.
