Recently recovered from our friends at the Prix Jeunesse festival (this sentence may alter! Tkrtktk), this episode – subsequently restored by Kaleidoscope, and which finally makes its DVD debut on this release – reflects the team getting into their stride as writers and performers. Note the tightly-written excellence of the ‘Travelling Kettle’ sketch, and, conversely, the increasingly sprawling, surreal scope of Captain Fantastic – seemingly growing stranger with each odd episode. Performing a spirited live vocal for Ali Baba’s Camel, Viv Stanshall makes it quite clear to the kiddies what kind of LSD he’s talking about, and Neil Innes steals a sketch as a spinsterish pianist struggling with her spectacles.
