Regarding Buddhism

35m
Directed by Martijn Tervoort • Documentary • With Peter D. Hershock • 2019 • 35 minutes
The students talk with philosopher Peter Hershock, who approaches questions of consciousness from a Buddhist perspective. Professor Hershock argues that the thought process constitutes a sixth sense, the same as smell or vision. Thinking is defined not solely through the individual, but rather through that individual’s engagement with the world around them. Building on this theme of the interconnectivity of human consciousness, the group considers how they can begin to address the major problems of the day—poverty, climate change, war—through a collective rather than an individual framework.
