Eryk Rocha

Eryk Rocha is a filmmaker born in Brazil, in 1978. In 2002, he graduated from the film school of Los Baños, Cuba, where he directed his first feature Stones in the Sky (Rocha Que Voa), which was selected in Venice, Locarno, Rotterdam, and other festivals, winning Best Film in Argentina, Brazil, and Cuba. Since then, he has garnered a prestigious presence at international festivals such as Cannes, Sundance, New York, Montevideo, Guadalajara, Buenos Aires, Marseille, and Amsterdam. Cinema Novo (2016), his seventh feature, won the L’Oeil d’Or for Best Documentary at the Cannes IFF.

In 2019, Eryk launched his feature drama, Burning Night, supported by CNC with Aide Aux Cinema du Monde award for post-production. Other highlights from his extensive filmography include The Falling Sky (A Queda do Céu), the immersive and lyrical Brazilian documentary Eryk co-directed with first-time director Gabriela Carneiro da Cunha, which was a standout at major international festivals—including Directors' Fortnight at Cannes, DOC NYC, and Doclisboa. Other critically acclaimed films include the NY Times Critic’s Pick Sunday Ball and Edna, which each received awards and presence at renowned festivals. Several of his works are held in MoMA’s permanent collection.
