Not a Still Life is a portrait of Steve Stone, an older gay, Jewish man who shares the naked truth of the struggles, joys and sorrows of his unconventional life a life full of captivating tales. With both humor and raw honesty, Steve tells of childhood ridicule in the 50’s, coming out in the early 60’s and living openly gay for fifty years, finding true love, then dealing with tragedy and loss, loneliness and the realization of aging. His gradual evolution includes embracing sobriety, connecting with a long lost relative and discovering his spirituality leading to a return to Judaism only to find that he is in danger of losing his home and business. Not a Still Life is about a man in search of his identity and a sense of belonging. This one man's story taps into themes that encompass all our lives. His unique reflections stimulate argument and provide us with a most unique understanding of ourselves and the complexity of human identity.
