Not long ago the art business was completely dominated by men: patrons, curators, collectors showed sculptors, draughtsmen and painters. When the nudes descended from the canvases and took matters into their own hands, women also went into the business of art. CONQUERING THE ART BUSINESS is a film that informs and entertains seeing women and power in a new, glamorous light.
More than the changes of the artists and their positions, the structures of the business itself have changed. For banks, art is an investment option, for the traders something between passion and status symbols, and for society a way of conveying cultural values. The role of women and their concrete positions in the art business reflect a contemporary shift and control of power structures and value attributions.
With a critical and at the same time sensitive approach, this film allows an insight into the microcosm of the art trade and shows the macrocosm of feminist values. It is precisely here that we find many women in important positions today worldwide. Switzerland, the center of international money and art trade, is the backdrop with a unique insight.
