Directed by Salomé Jashi • Documentary • With Dariko Beria, Kakha Kvaratskhelia • 2016 • 74 minutes
Flanked by her laconic sidekick, Dariko is the only broadcast journalist at a local Georgian television channel. With inadequate resources, she races from one report to another to give an honest, if not objective, report of he current events of the town. From the capture of a giant owl, an amateur fashion show, to the death of a local town hero, all while receiving vague threats from politicians to cover the town in a more favourable light, and criticism from the locals for not covering the political corruption thoroughly enough. Comic and tragic, this award winning, idiosyncratic documentary artfully depicts one woman's struggle to record a history and maintain integrity in the face of adversity, boredom, and budget cuts.
